Little time left for KVUE, DirecTV to ink deal

Update: KVUE and DirecTV reached a new agreement late Tuesday night

Earlier: DirecTV customers could lose access to KVUE overnight.

The satellite provider’s contract to carry Austin’s top-rated TV station expires at midnight. DirecTV and KVUE’s owner, Dallas-based Belo Corp., have been working for months to hammer out a new deal but they’re not there just yet.

Cash compensation is the sticking point. DirecTV must pay TV station owners for the right to carry their signals, and Belo has stated loud and clear online and on air that it believes its stations are worth far more than they’ve been receiving.

Patti Smith, KVUE’s president and general manager, offered this statement a short time ago:

“While we continue to discuss issues between KVUE and DirecTV, there is not a new agreement. We do not wish to inconvenience our viewers, however, we must agree on terms that are fair and recognize KVUE’s value in comparison to lesser-viewed cable channels. If KVUE comes off DirecTV, you may still receive the station’s signal free over the air or by other video subscription providers. If you would like more details, please go to our website at kvue.com.”

So … will KVUE go dark? Look for an update later today.

Here we go again. I am so tired of the constant posturing between local stations and the various cable companies. You have done this so much lately that nobody cares anymore.

consumers need to quit dealing with this garbage and pull the plug on ripoff pay-tv providers like time warner, directv, uverse, etc. until these providers can give ala carte programming (pay only for the channels you watch) these stupid hostage contracts will always go on, and prices will continue to go up on pay-tv providers. turn off the tv and go do something!!!
