Verizon FiOS picks up Longhorn Network
The Longhorn Network has inked its first distribution deal.
The cable channel, which launches Friday, has been picked up by Verizon FiOS. While FiOS service is available in North Texas, Central Texans are out of luck.
Longhorn Network will join Verizon’s lineup Sept. 1, just in time for the Sept. 3 Rice vs. Texas game that will air exclusively on LHN.
In Texas, subscribers to the Prime HD, Extreme HD and Ultimate HD packages will find a standard-definition version of the network on Channel 79. The high-definition feed is set to air on Channel 579.
Outside the Lone Star State, FiOS Ultimate HD subscribers can catch LHN on Channel 320.
“We know Texas Longhorn fans are among the most loyal and enthusiastic in college sports, so we’re pleased to add the Longhorn Network to our already robust sports lineup on FiOS TV,” said Terry Denson, vice president of content strategy and acquisition for Verizon.
The deal also means FiOS customers will soon have access to the channel’s programming online, as well as on smartphones and tablets.
“Verizon’s early commitment to this network speaks to the university’s popularity and the consumer demand for this content,” said David Preschlack, executive vice president of Disney and ESPN Media Networks.
