Talks between Longhorn Network, cable companies continue
Longhorn Network officials strongly hinted this afternoon that deals are imminent with area cable and satellite providers.
The network, a partnership between the University of Texas and ESPN, launches a week from Friday and has yet to announce any signed contracts that would make its broadcasts available to consumers in Central Texas and beyond.
“We’ll have a lot more to share in the next eight days,” said Burke Magnus, ESPN’s senior vice president for college sports programming. “It’s not a great concern right now. It’s just simply the way it works.”
A spokesman for Time Warner Cable, the area’s dominant cable provider, said this week talks with ESPN are ongoing and that executives are hopeful a deal can be reached in the near future.
