Wake-up time is about to get even earlier for KXAN’s morning news team.

Starting Monday, June 20, the station will bump up the start of its “KXAN News Today” program by 30 minutes, kicking things off at 4:30 a.m. NBC’s “Early Today,” which currently airs at that time, can be seen at 4 a.m.

The NBC affiliate is Austin’s third station to offer local news at 4:30 a.m., along with KTBC and KVUE. The most recent ratings from the Nielsen Co. show KXAN saw a year-to-year jump in viewers in that timeslot.

“KXAN is excited to offer Central Texans our in-depth, investigative and First Warning Weather coverage promise beginning now at 4:30 a.m.,” president and general manager Eric Lassberg said in the station’s announcement. “Our expanded morning show with our entire morning team will be poised and ready at 4:30 a.m. to provide our viewers the best in local news every morning.”

Chris Willis and Sally Hernandez anchor “KXAN News Today,” along with meteorologist Shawn Rutherford and traffic reporter Debra Wynn.

I do, I have to be at work by 6AM. You'd be surprised at how many people get up this early. I get up a little early to exercise though, not to watch television, but I might put something like this on in the background, depending on what they show.

No one is up that early but then again it doesn't really matter because no one watches KXAN anyways

Why? Because everyone else is. Oh yeah and money because it for sure is not about the news.
