LIN Media, operator of Austin’s NBC affiliate KXAN, the CW Austin (KNVA) and myAustinTV (KBVO), has announced the recipients of its 2011 Minority Broadcast Scholarship and Training Program.
Natalie Hee, a junior at the University of Texas, and Monica Ayala-Talavera, a junior at the University of Missouri, will each receive two-year scholarships valued at up to $10,000 per year. In addition, Hee has earned a paid internship at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana and Ayala-Talavera will be a paid intern at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, MI.
“As the media industry continues to evolve, we want to provide an opportunity for talented and ambitious students to pursue their goals in both broadcast and digital media,” said Vincent L. Sadusky, president and chief executive officer of LIN Media. “This year’s recipients are very deserving of this opportunity and we look forward to their continued success.”
LIN awards the scholarships to multicultural students pursuing careers in digital media.
Hee, currently the marketing director for UT’s Texas State Television, recently completed an internship at KXAN. Ayala-Talavera, a city and state writer for the University of Missouri’s student newspaper, previously participated in a six-week program with the Detroit Free Press.
