Austin stations win state awards

Austin television stations made a strong showing in the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters annual contest.

Competing in Division 2, ABC affiliate KVUE took top honors in the Newscast category. CBS affiliate KEYE won first place in the Sportscast category, and NBC affiliate KXAN was first in the Weathercast category.

KVUE’s Tyler Sieswerda and Terri Gruca won first place in News Anchor or Anchor Team.

Overall, KVUE won 22 awards and honorable mentions, KXAN and YNN each won seven and KEYE won five. Fox affiliate KTBC won three.

The awards will be presented April 16 in Dallas.
