This week’s TV picks
Monday:
“Million Dollar Money Drop” 7 p.m., Fox: Talk about dropping some cash. Contestants must place stacks of bills (there is actually $1 million on stage) over chutes with possible answers to the game’s questions in this series premiere. When the correct answer is revealed, the money can plummet down the chute, which is actually kind of fun to watch.
“The Sing-off” 7 p.m., NBC: Surprise performances highlight the second season finale.
Tuesday:
“Saturday Night Live Presents: A Very Gilly Christmas” 8 p.m., NBC: Okay, who thought it was a good idea to re-run this holiday-themed compilation of “SNL” sketches and featuring possibly the lamest character the show has ever created? Was it you, Gilly? Gilly? Gillllllly?
“Hooters Snow Angels” 10 p.m., Spike: I guess this is like the Victoria’s Secret angel fashion show, but with greasier wings.
Wednesday:
“A Home for the Holidays” 7 p.m., CBS: Katy Perry, Melissa Etheridge and Nelly perform on this 12th annual adoption awareness effort.
“Biography” 8 p.m., Bio: You’d think we know everything there is to know about John Belushi, but nooooooooo! A new documentary of the comic’s life includes interviews, photos and home video footage.
Thursday:
“How the Grinch Stole Christmas” 7 p.m., ABC: The 1966 animated classic is followed by the inferior live action Jim Carrey remake. If you watch them back to back, you can experience your heart growing three sizes and then immediately shrinking again.
“Christmas Unwrapped” 7 p.m., Discovery: Did you know that the holiday had something to do with the invention of the artificial heart? Me neither, but this program claims it is. I wonder if artificial hearts grow when “The Grinch” is on?
Friday:
“Are We Done Yet?” 7 p.m., Fox: Ice Cube and Nia Long star in this fixer-upper remake, which I assume was named after a long and very one-sided conversation I had with my turkey on Thanksgiving.
“It’s A Wonderful Life” 7 p.m., NBC: No annual Christmas classic is a failure that has viewers.
“A Christmas Story” marathon, 7 p.m., TBS: A dozen consecutive airings of the holiday staple begin now.
Saturday:
“Transformers” 7 p.m., ABC: Merry Christmas! You can’t spell robot without “ot,” which stands for overtime, which
oh, never mind. I thought I could go somewhere with this, but I guess not.
“Doctor Who” 8 p.m., BBC America: Okay, let’s try this again
you can’t spell who without “ho,” as in ho-ho-ho, as you’ll discover in this “A Christmas Carol”-themed episode.
Sunday:
‘The Sound of Music’ 7 p.m., ABC: It’s kind of like “Glee” in Nazi Germany. I’ve probably seen this film sixteen times (going on seventeen).
‘The Simpsons’ 7 p.m., Fox: Did you miss that borderline tasteless live-action bit with Katy Perry a few weeks ago? Tune in tonight and see if Fox dares to air it again in this holiday repeat.
