Celebration Sunday in memory of KVUE producer Thea Williams
A celebration of the life of Thea Williams will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, October 24 in Nazro Hall at St. Andrew’s Episcopal (Middle) School, 1112 W. 31st St., Austin. The event is sponsored by St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, St. Stephen’s Episcopal School and KVUE-TV.
Williams died in late September following a lengthy battle with breast cancer.
The event will include prayer, music and dance, as well as comments from KVUE’s Ilona McCauley and News Director Frank Volpicella. Williams was KVUE’s Daybreak and Midday executive producer. Lucy Nazro, head of the school, will speak about Williams’ time on campus with her children. A reception will be held in the school’s library following the service.
A long time Austin journalist, Williams worked at KVUE for 15 years and taught Journalism at ACC. She was also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
Donations to the Thea Williams-Douglas Scholarship Fund, which will provide scholarships for students who have lost a parent to cancer and scholarships to students in need who are Journalism and Communication majors, can be directed to Chase Bank, 1315 Virginia Blvd., San Antonio, Texas 78203.
KVUE ran a short tribute to Williams on its newscast, which you can view here.

Thea was a wonderful person with an infectious smile and laugh. We studied broadcast journalism at UT together and worked at the same TV station in Waco together. She made the journalism industry proud.
