More on ‘My Generation’s’ cancellation
ABC has cancelled “My Generation,” the Austin-set and -filmed faux docudrama that it aggressively promoted before its Sept. 23 debut.
The show, which sported an ensemble cast including Austin’s Mehcad Brooks, son of American-Statesman editorial writer Alberta Phillips, becomes the second casualty of the fall television season — Fox’s “Lone Star,” also set in Texas, was canceled earlier this week.
Both shows were unconventional and became victims of low ratings. “My Generation” debuted to weak numbers and lost 31 percent of its viewers in its second outing on Thursday. When the ratings were reported Friday morning, creator Noah Hawley remained upbeat. “We’re still working over here, prepping episode 9. Got our own ice cream flavor at Amy’s. Life is good,” he told me.
After hearing of the cancellation, Hawley intimated that the show was ahead of its time. “I want to thank the people of Austin, my extraordinary cast and our amazing crew,” he said. “I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved. In a network TV landscape littered with cartoon characters, we made a moving, funny, innovative show about the lives we live today. And we did it on our own terms. I believe that ‘My Generation,’ though short lived, will be talked about for a long time.”
ABC has not yet announced what will replace the show as its “Grey’s Anatomy” lead in.

Typical Gen Y problem. Because they were over- indulged as kids, they think that they are much more interesting than they are.

They setup about 9 stereotypical character arcs, none of which I found interesting enough to tune into the second episode. Which is bad, because I would have probably watched it if it was at all watchable due to the number of actors I know in it.
Really disappointing.

I think part of the problem was that not all the people watching network TV on Thursday nights are in "My Generation."
