KVUE and TWC: Carriage negotiations continue
KVUE President and General Manager Patti Smith has posted a message on the station’s website about the ongoing negotiations between Belo Corporation’s local ABC network affiliate and Time Warner Cable.
At issue is the contract between the two parties to deliver KVUE’s signal through Time Warner’s service; that contract expires on Sept. 25.
“I want you to know that we are doing all we can to work through any issues so that you do not lose KVUE on the cable system,” Smith wrote. “The last thing we want is for KVUE viewers to be caught in the middle. We don’t think that’s acceptable.”
The message goes on to explain other ways viewers can obtain the KVUE signal in the event that the two parties can not reach an agreement. These include using a digital or old-fashioned analog antenna, or switching to another provider (the site includes links to AT&T U-verse, DirecTV and Verizon Fios, although the Verizon service does not seem to be available in the Austin area; curiously, there is no mention of Dish Network).
Smith concludes by suggesting viewers who have questions contact KVUE by calling (512) 459-6521 or e-mailing the station at cable@KVUE.com.
Meanwhile, Melissa Sorola, Time Warner Cable’s Texas Region Communications Director, sends the following statement:
“We’re currently in negotiations with Belo and don’t anticipate a loss of programming at this time. Our www.RollOverOrGetTough.com website is a good source for background on retransmission situations like this and has been updated with Belo information.

Thanks for your comments, Bobby. In fact, my Blog post *was* news reporting: I reported the news that KVUE had released a statement on the carriage dispute. I then contacted Time Warner to get a response — that's how that information was "somehow received." I posted pertinent information from both sides (the "transcribing you referred to) in case my readers preferred to get that information on my Blog. I also posted links to direct them to further information from both parties involved in the event they wanted more details. Finally, I told viewers how they might be affected and when. I'm not sure what more you would have wanted me to do regarding a (sadly) routine carriage dispute. Please let me know what other information you need that's not provided by my Blog post or one of the links I furnished and I will try to dig it up for you.

Transcribing a webpage is NOT news reporting. When are the "journalists" at the Statetsman going to do something more than copy/paste press releases and translate webpages? I understand this is a blog (one of the worst things to happen to the news industry since the creation of Fox News) but, come on, do some ACTUAL reporting! It appears that Dale Roe contacted no one at KVUE for this blog entry so putting a byline on this for a TimeWarner statement that was somehow received is somewhat foolish and unprofessional.

I hope Time Warner yanks it and replaces it with Starz like they did with the last greedy local TV station (KXAN). KVUE will find out soon enough that no one will miss it once it's gone and they will come crawling back to Time Warner begging to be added back just like KXAN.
