Fallon’s Emmys: The reviews are in
In spite of all odds, I kind of enjoyed Sunday night’s Emmy Awards broadcast: “Modern Family” won best comedy; “Mad Men” took best drama; Austin area-filmed “Temple Grandin” cleaned up (with the real-life Grandin close to stealing the show); the “Glee”-ful opening musical number was great; and Jimmy Fallon was okay.
The much-hyped presenter introductions, chosen by Fallon and his writers from Twitter users, were a bust and his strolling-minstrel guitar bits were a mistake. Still, a bit where he mimicked Elton John, Boys II Men and Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong in a parody song tribute to departing series’ “24,” “Law & Order” and “Lost” had funny moments and the show moved at a brisk pace.
While most reviews of Fallon’s performance were positive, some found his pacing of the show too frantic. Read this sampling of opinion and then let me know what you thought by posting a comment below:
Hal Boedeker at the Orlando Sentinel enjoyed the show and wrote that “The main credit goes to Jimmy Fallon.”
Mary McNamara of the Los Angeles Times found the host “infectiously happy to be there without drawing too much attention to himself.”
USA Today’s Robert Bianco, though, thought Fallon seemed “desperate” and opined that he “lived and too often died by his guitar.’
What did you think?

Award show hosts usually work best with a great opener which really gets the audience ready for a fun night- which Fallon did with much success. Once you succeed however, everything pales in comparison which also happened. He would've been better to stick to hosting and pitching those clever one-liners (if he can) like Crystal, Carson. You have to remember, it's not your show- leave your guitar at home.
