The Next Food Network Star Season Six: Episode Eight Recap

It was a good run while it lasted, Brad. With a flubbed presentation and a dish that wasn’t good but also wasn’t bad, Austin-based cook Brad Sorenson was eliminated from “The Next Food Network Star” Sunday night. The elimination came after another episode where the five remaining contestants, who were competing to go with the show to New York for the final episodes, stumbled through two challenges. With the exception of Tom, who had an exceptional night, none of the remaining finalists seem ready to host their own show.

It was also an emotional evening, as Giada surprised the contestants with a quick visit from family members. Despite a reunion with his brother, things weren’t looking good for Brad from the beginning. During the first challenge, each contestant’s cooking station was marked with a logo for their proposed show, except Brad’s, which contained a big question mark. Though he seemed to bounce back with a new idea, he lacked the momentum that he had been building over the past few weeks.

For the “Star Challenge” this week, the finalists cooked for Chef Todd English of L.A. restaurant Beso, and his business partner, actress Eva Longoria. Each chef was assigned an emotion (surprise, joy, melancholy, etc.) after which they were to model their dish. Brad, with the “surprise” dish, prepared a combination of fish and steak (which was undercooked). He went on to completely fail in his presentation, save a bit of flirting with Longoria. It landed him a spot in the bottom three, along with Aria and Aarti, who despite receiving what seemed like more negative criticism from the teary-eyed judges, moved on to New York with Tom and Herb.
