The Next Food Network Star Season Six: Episode Four Recap
After Dzintra Dzenis was eliminated from “The Next Food Network Star” last week as a result of a teamwork fail with Aria, Asti line cook Brad Sorenson remained as the lone Austin-based finalist. While Sorenson has made some mistakes, he has more or less managed to keep out of too much trouble. This week was no different. In the first challenge, the contestants competed for a temporary spot on the menu at Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill restaurants. While Brianna, who seems to keep gaining momentum, won, Flay seemed to enjoy Brad’s dish quite a bit.
For the ‘star challenge’ this week, the remaining finalists were broken into three teams, and asked to recreate the favorite dish of a prominent chef. Das was headed downhill from the beginning here, and it was rough to watch him squirm as Flay quizzed him on his knowledge of cuts of meat. Paul, who like Das was tasked with preparing a steak, chose to make pork instead, a risk with which the judges were surprisingly okay. While Paul has toned down his abrasive humor quite a bit, it is still kind of shocking that he has not been eliminated yet.
Like in the previous weeks, the judges were mostly happy with the food and presentations made by Aria, Aarti and Brianna. Serena was punished for making breaded chicken instead of fried chicken, which seemed unfair considering how they let Paul slide. Brad, who also made fried chicken, received high marks, and advanced another week. If he can improve on camera, he might have a shot of hanging on until the finale. Das was eliminated.
