‘The Next Food Network Star’ Episode 3 recap
After Dzintra’s close call last week, the pressure was on this week for the Austin-based caterer. This week’s guest judge was Food Network host and former winner of the show Guy Fieri. For the first challenge, the 10 remaining finalists were tasked with creating a dish inspired by film. It doesn’t seem like any of the contestants ever do that well in these opening games, and this week was no different. With the exception of Aarti and a couple others, the judges seemed unimpressed by most of what was put in front of them.
The “star” challenge this week began with the finalists having to walk down the red carpet and talk to the press. While we didn’t see too much of Brad, Dzintra did an awkward dance down the carpet, drawing a cringe from Fieri. The contestants were then given a gift bag containing one ingredient, paired off into teams, and asked to create a three dishes—one by each person on a team and one collaborative dish—for a Grammy party hosted by pop singer Colbie Caillet.
If having to watch each finalists’ carpet awkwardness wasn’t enough, the hate-fest that was the forced teamwork bordered on unbearable. Brad, who was paired with Aarti, again failed to impress the judges, but his personality won over some of the guests, earning him a pass. Aria and Dzintra, on the other hand, were a bit of a mess. Dzintra complained about Aria; Aria looked as if she was going to stab Dzintra.
When it came time for elimination, Brad was told that he was safe, event though his food wasn’t very good. Dzintra and Aria and Paul and Serena were picked as the two teams facing elimination, and then it was narrowed down to Paul and Dzintra. Fieri said that he liked Paul’s sense of humor (he seems like the only one), and Dzintra was sent home.
