MTV looking for ‘TJ’ — Twitter Jockey
MTV — the network that used to show music videos — is trading VJs for TJs. A contest is on to hire the network’s first “Twitter Jockey.”
The successful candidate will earn a six-figure salary and, according to MTV, get access to “hot celebrities” (nominate yourself or your favorite social media maven at that link).
What do you think? We have a social media editor here at the paper who acts as a liaison between the online community and management (I’m not sure about the salary, but I don’t think Cox Enterprises offers much “hot celebrity” access). Is this a natural evolution for MTV or is the cable network jumping onto and seeking to exploit the social media bandwagon? Five finalists out of twenty hopefuls will compete for the position on a live show on Aug. 8 — and the winner will appear on camera frequently — so it’s not exactly as if looks don’t count, right? It sounds as if MTV is trying to create a new celebrity.
Could it be you? Find out more about the contest here.
