American-Statesman technology culture reporter Omar Gallaga alerted me to a widespread problem customers of DirecTV are experiencing as a result of a software update that was pushed out to customers overnight: DVRs appear to be dead and won’t turn on or respond to remote commands.
DirecTV acknowledged the problem on its Twitter feed and offered a solution to the problem, which you can find over on Omar’s Digital Savant blog.
Omar also mentions new DirecTV features, including 3-D channels and a subscription service that allows clients to share one DVR among multiple screens, similar to AT&T’s U-verse.
