Keri Bellacosa to anchor Fox 7’s ‘Good Day Austin’ expansion

Austin is getting another five hours of local news. Fox affiliate KTBC is tacking an extra hour onto the end of “Good Day Austin.” The morning news program will air from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays beginning Monday, June 28.

Reporter Keri Bellacosa (pictured) who started her Fox 7 career as a reporter on the show in March 2007, will anchor the additional hour.

“We’ve done some research and we see a lot of need and want for news at 9 a.m. Especially local, because everybody else goes to entertainment or national news at that point,” said KTBC news director Pam Vaught.

She adds that the additional hour will still contain news programming, but that the station is shooting for more of a “water cooler-type” hour, looking at the news of the day but delving deeper, for instance, into the big stories from the previous night’s newscast. Other topics could include money-saving tips, how to shop at the local farmers’ market. Vaught calls it “a newscast that can help people in Austin know what’s going on and live a better life. We do a lot of that anyway on ‘Good Day,’ but we’re really going to give it more time to breath in this 9 a.m.”

The expansion moves “Dr. Oz” to 10 a.m. and results in the elimination of repeats of “Judge Alex” and “Divorce Court.” The first runs of those shows will remain in the daily schedule.

“We’re real excited about it,” Vaught said. “It’s kind of rare that you get to add newscasts in a lot of markets these days.”

Your Tyler, Texas friends are proud of your success, Keri. You did an amazing job in the Tyler market and I always watch for you when I'm in Austin (which has been often this year--I almost called you with a story when I found a recording device under my hotel bed in Austin---with the RECORD ON button red! Creepy!

Now, we will be raising you up for the morning show. Proud of your hard work being acknowledged. Great decision by your station.

I despise the reactionaries on Fox News, but love the network's policy of loading up the newsrooms with smoking hot YOUNG women EXACTLY like Keri Bellacosa. When she gets announced as the reporter delivering a story on the 9 p.m. Fox News, I turn the sound up, crank up Marvin Gaye, and hit my TiVo's slo-mo button so nothing gets between me and lovely Keri. That IS what I'm talkin' about. Giggity. Thank you Fox Austin for giving us more than Glee and Siobhan Magnus.
