Tuesday’s season finales
‘90210’ (7 p.m. on The CW)
‘V’ (9:02 p.m. on ABC)
There might be burning questions in tonight’s two series finales, but none of them is “will this show be back?” Both shows have already been renewed — ‘90210’ for a third season; “V” for a second. Recently on the cancellation bubble, ABC’s stylish sci-fi re-imagining saw a slight upward swing in the ratings for last Tuesday’s penultimate episode.
Airing in the fall for just four episodes and brought back this spring following an extended hiatus, “V” hardly had time to build a large audience. It’s not as smart as those first episodes led us to believe it would be, and breathless dialogue such as this — “Anna’s ‘V’ soldier eggs are about to hatch!” — from tonight’s finale doesn’t help. Still, it’s a much better show than ABC’s murky and focus-challeneged “Flash Forward,” once seen as the heir apparent to “Lost.”
“V” is not showing up on ABC’s fall schedule, so the network is probably keeping it in its back pocket to toss onto the schedule following the inevitable failure of one or more of its freshman series, or to use as a mid-season replacement.
Here’s the promo for the “V” finale.” Are you a fan? Are you happy about the renewal? Sound off in the comments.
