KXAN releases statement on Tuesday outage
Austin’s NBC affiliate, KXAN, has posted a statement entitled “KXAN statement on signal outage: Transmitter problems cut signal to thousands” on its Web site. The outage, which lasted from just after 10 p.m. Tuesday to around 3 a.m. Wednesday, interrupted the Olympics figure skating coverage, which was moved to KBVO.
Here is the text of KXAN’s statement:
KXAN lost its signal shortly after 10PM last night due to an electrical failure at our transmitter. After an extensive evaluation, it was determined that our best course of action was to terminate power to the transmitter site so that we could perform further diagnoses and avoid injury. The KXAN engineering staff corrected the problem and restored the transmitter and signal at approximately 3AM. We do not expect any more technical difficulties that would result in KXAN’s signal being lost. DirecTV, DISH, Suddenlink and Northland Cable receive our over the air signal and as a result lost our signal. Time Warner Cable, AT&T Uverse and Grande Communication receive our signal through a fiber line connection and would not be affected when our over the air signal was lost. Per NBC, last night’s Olympic coverage will not be rebroadcast, but it is available in full as seen on TV at NBC Olympics Online We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused our viewers.
In a related matter, Time Warner Cable says that Austin TWC customers can catch up on action they missed Tuesday night via the company’s On Demand channels. Updated content should be posted early Thursday morning on Sports On Demand channel 1460 and HD Showcase channel 1479. Those On Demand programs will be free to TWC digital subscribers.

dBaron: I contacted Time Warner and this was their response:
The programming was loaded this morning. It's not a comprehensive replay of everything that aired, but it does hit on several highlights. We've also instructed folks they can view the programming online, instructions on how here: http://disposablewebpage.com/turn?page=nJxbt9fvVe.

"Time Warner Cable says that Austin TWC customers can catch up on action they missed Tuesday night via the companys On Demand channels. "
As usual, Time Warner doesn't live up to its hype. Look at their On Demand channel (1460) and try to find the womens figure skating short program - you won't find it despite their claims to the contrary. For once the lousy service wasn't their fault; however, they are misleading us about it being available now.

What KXAN has failed to say is that, in order to watch online at NBC Olympics, you must be a paying cable or satellite customer. NBC Online requires a log-in composed of your account number or username and password. So, those of us who rely on over-the-air television signal are still out of luck when it comes to viewing what we missed during the signal outage.
