KVUE’s Mark Murray undergoes emergency appendectomy

KVUE television Chief Meteorologist Mark Murray underwent an emergency appendectomy this weekend. Murray wrote the following on his Facebook page:

Being rushed to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy was not exactly what I had planned to do on Saturday, but I’m home now and on the mend. Thanks to everyone at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center for the excellent care from the second I came into the ER until the fine staff on 4 East wheeled me out to the car. Special thanks to my wife and family, and to my wonderful friends for their love and support.

Murray’s previous post was on Friday, encouraging his Facebook friends to enjoy the beautiful Saturday weather. His post-operative post generated many replies of well-wishes and expressions of relief from Murray’s many fans.

Murray said he debated posting the item, but didn’t want to leave viewers wondering where he went for a couple of days. “These are the people who call me for the forecasts for their wedding days,” he said.

Murray woke up feeling fine Saturday morning, but started feeling pain around 10 a.m. His wife Crystal, a nurse, took him into the hospital early that afternoon. He added that she kindly let him off the hook for Valentine’s dinner and that this was the first time he’s ever spent the night in a hospital.

“I made it to 50 without doing that, and hopefully I won’t have to do it again,” he laughed. “Actually, now that the appendix is gone I know I won’t have to do it again.”

Murray’s got a follow-up appointment on Thursday morning and says that if all goes well, he could be back on the air that night. He says that station management is letting him decide when he feels well enough to return.

“Thankfully, my job doesn’t require a lot of heavy lifting,” he joked.
