This week’s TV picks

Monday:
‘How I Met Your Mother’ 7 p.m., CBS: Sportscaster Jim Nantz and Yankee Nick Swisher guest as Barney sets out on a new conquest.
‘One Tree Hill’ 7 p.m., The CW: Plot lines from ‘Home Alone,’ ’Sixteen Candles’ and ‘Planes, Trains & Automobiles’ are aped in a John Hughes tribute episode.
‘BET Honors’ 8 p.m., BET: Host Gabrielle Union pays tribute to Whitney Houston, Queen Latifah and other luminaries. Performers include Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson.
‘CSI: Miami’ 9 p.m., CBS: Anthony Michael Hall plays a death-row inmate. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that this is not a John Hughes tribute.

Tuesday:
‘Lost’ 8 p.m., ABC: The final season begins with the time-traveling castaways in an episode titled “LA X.” The episode will be preceded by a 7 p.m. recap of the previous five seasons and a live chat about the premiere at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 3 right here.
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ 8 p.m., VH1: A dozen drag queens are introduced in the season 2 opener of this competitive reality series. Yep, being judged by RuPaul and Kathy Griffin sounds like a drag.
‘White Collar’ 9 p.m., USA: A sting operation aims to catch criminals engaging in the trafficking of human organs. Man, you do not want to be the bait in that scheme.

Wednesday:
‘Super Bowl’s greatest Commercials’ 7 p.m., CBS: Jim Nantz and Lara Spencer look at the top ten commercials that aired during the annual event. Also, this is the first and last time you’ll ever see Jim Nantz’s name twice in the TV picks.
‘American Idol’ 8 p.m., Fox: Auditions conclude with a ‘road to Hollywood’ special. This can’t be a clip show so early in the season. Perhaps will get to see some of the Hollywood hopefuls who didn’t get screen time in their cities’ episodes.
‘Modern Family’ 8 p.m., ABC: Minnie Driver guests as an old friend of Claire’s; Jay and Cameron share an uncomfortable locker room moment.

Thursday:
‘The Office’ 8 p.m., NBC: Kathy Bates buys Dunder-Mifflin. ’Cuz she’s its biggest fan.
’30 Rock’ 8:30 p.m., NBC: A nearly unrecognizable former ‘Saturday Night Live’ Sweeney Sister Jan Hooks returns to NBC in a hilarious guest starring role as Jenna’s scheming, absentee mother.
‘Vampire Diaries’ 7 p.m., The CW: Bonnie and Ben’s date ends badly. I’m not sure I really even want to know what that means on this show.
‘Soundstage’ 9 p.m., PBS: Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller perform.

Friday:
‘Austin City Limits’ 9 p.m., PBS: Steve Earle performs the songs of Townes Van Zandt.

Saturday:
‘NASCAR Racing; Budweiser Shootout’ 7 p.m., Fox: The wheels on the cars go round and round in Daytona Beach.

Sunday:
‘Super Bowl XLIV’, 5:25 p.m., CBS: Wait a minute … is there a football game on today? The Saints’ battle against the Colts is wrapped around a short Who concert.
