Joint statement from Fox and TWC

Courtesy of The Wrap, here is the text of the joint statement from Fox Television and Time Warner Cable released upon the successful resolution of their contract dispute. The full article is short on details, but includes comments from the FCC and Fox bigwigs:

The Fox Networks Group and Time Warner Cable announced today that they have agreed in principle to a comprehensive distribution agreement to provide more than 13 million households with programming from Fox Television Stations, Fox Broadcasting (FOX), Fox Cable Networks and Fox’s regional sports networks. The deal also includes carriage agreements for Bright House Networks’ 2 million additional subscribers.

“We’re pleased that, after months of negotiations, we were able to reach a fair agreement with Time Warner Cable — one that recognizes the value of our programming,” said Chase Carey, Deputy Chairman, President and COO, News Corporation.

“We’re happy to have reached a reasonable deal with no disruption in programming for our customers,” said Glenn Britt, Chairman, President and CEO, Time Warner Cable.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Why would anyone put up with the mess that cable TV puts us through! With everyone going to HD TVs Direct TV and Dish offer dozens more HD selections, not to mention the NFL Network, Friday Night Lights, news and sport mixes. The big concern about losing signals is not an issue. I live near the south Texas coastline, hurricanes, high winds, etc. and signal interruption is not a problem. While you must agree to a yearly subscription, the overall monthly fee is less than cable. No, I don't work for a Direct or Dish, I just like worry-free TV and know I'll never miss a Cowboy game, American Idol, House, etc.

Cable is pipe. Fox is content. I am tired of paying for pipe. I am going to cancel TW anyway and get Direct TV or Grande. Probably Grande because I can bundle everything.

Thanks, TW, for making me think this decision through and good riddance to your inferior and costly service.

I think it's silly that cable systems dealing with "must carry" requirements have to pay the over-the-air broadcast networks for programming you can get free with an antenna... but I guess I should say "thank you" to TWC for making it more feasible to keep getting free TV with the antenna. And we're 60 miles away from the transmitter, but with a good antenna we get a great picture.... for nothing a month.
