DirecTV brings 3-D to your living room

Are you ready for “Friday Night Lights” in 3-D?

A story on TV Biz Wire says that DirecTV will launch the nation’s first 3-D HDTV channel in 2010. Quoting sources at HDGuru, the article reports that a satellite launched by the pay television provider on Dec. 28 will carry the new channel, which will be announced by DirecTV at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in January.

The report says that a program satellite launched by DirecTV on Dec. 28 will carry the new 3-D channel, which could be operational as soon as March, adding that DirecTV will make an announcement about the new channel at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Jan. 7th. Current subscribers would receive a firmware upgrade enabling the reception of the 3-D programming — as long as they have a 3-D capable HDTV (many models are expected to debut at CES). Some existing HDTVs should be able to receive the programming with a converter box.

And, of course, you’ll still have to wear those goofy glasses.

What do you think? Are you ready for 3-D in your living room? I’m not sold, but then I don’t really enjoy 3-D at the cineplex, either. I don’t see this catching on, but then I was wrong about that whole “wheel” thing, too.
