What I’m watching
Hey, TV fans! I’m knee-deep in mid-season replacement previews. Here’s what I’m watching:
“Southland.” TNT did not send any previously unaired episodes, but they sent a disc with an extended version of the pilot and the last episode that aired on NBC before cancellation. The press release says that TNT is restoring some “language” that was removed from the original NBC airings.
Showtime. No “Weeds” in this package (boo!) but the pay cable net sent 2 episodes each of “United States of Tara” and “Nurse Jackie” (BIG yay!), a trailer for the new “Oliver Stone’s Secret History of America (hmmm) and a pair of episodes for a new series tentatively titled, “The Green Room,” featuring comedians and hosted by Paul Provenza. Also from Showtime — new episodes of “Tracy Ullman’s State of the Union” and “Secret Diary of a Call Girl.”
“Big Love.” HBO sent a couple of new episodes of this fan favorite which returns Sunday, Jan. 10, along with a really creepy Christmas CD of “Big Love”-ized Christmas carols. Hee.
“24.” I just slogged through the first four hours of the new season. The following takes place on my face during those episodes: lots of eye-rolling, head shaking and forehead slapping.
“Human Target.” Anticipated FOX drama.
“Past Life.” Less-anticipated FOX drama.
“Life Unexpected.” I watched this CW drama pilot before it was yanked from the network’s Fall schedule. I can’t remember much about it, so I’ll have to watch it again. That should tell you something.
“Parenthood.” Another pilot (NBC) that was sent out for Fall but got yanked and held for mid-season.
My complete column about the mid-season replacement shows (including starting dates and capsule reviews of these series and others) will run in the Statesman and online at my TV page on Sunday, January 3.
