Golden Globe nominations announced
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has announced its nominations for the 67th annual Golden Globe awards. The ceremony, hosted by Ricky Gervais, will be broadcast live at 7 p.m. Sunday, January 17 on NBC from The Beverly Hilton.

Here are some random thoughts:
“Friday Night Lights” can’t get a break.
Courteney Cox, never nominated for her superior work on “Friends,” gets a nod for ABC’s icky “Cougartown.” Deserved? If we’re nominating flawed female characters behaving badly, I would much rather have seen Mary Louise Parker recognized for her work on Showtime’s “Weeds.”
Can Michael Emerson, who took home the Emmy for his work as Ben on ABC’s “Lost,” win the Globe, too? Boo to the “Lost” snub in the Best Drama category, though.
Hooray for Jane Lynch and Lea Michele for their recognition for FOX’s “Glee.” Not so much for that show’s drippy Matthew Morrison or for the show’s nomination in the Best Comedy or Musical category over superior shows such as Showtime’s “Nurse Jackie.”
Where is Jim Parsons from CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory?”
I think ABC’s “Modern Family” stands a chance to dethrone NBC’s “30 Rock” as Best Comedy — both are great shows. NBC’s “The Office” no longer deserves to be nominated, and the inclusion of musicals in that category could make the popular “Glee” a spoiler.
Edie Falco hands down needs to win Best Actress for her amazing work on “Nurse Jackie.”
Hooray for Jane Adams’ nod for HBO’s “Hung.” Mopey co-star Thomas Jane’s nomination for the same series is disappointing.
The mix of drama and comedy in the supporting categories makes for strange bedfellows: Where else will you see Neil Patrick Harris duke it out with William Hurt?

The nom list is...predictable. And once again, completely misses the boat in many cases. Hugh Laurie? Again? He's good but really, can't we move on to something new? And as much as I have enjoyed House in the past, lately, not so much. Jeremy Piven for Entourage? Really? That's so 2 seasons ago. I quit watching Entourage when it started to bore me to death. And what about Tim Hutton for Leverage? He consistently turns in good performances in that show and yet...ignored.
I absolutely agree about Mary Louise Parker. She's brilliant in that show even if it's a fine example of train-wreck TV (I can't stop watching even though I watch through my fingers!). Also agreed on Matthew Morrison. Still like the show but best actor he isn't. I won't even bother to mention "The Tudors" which is still brilliant and still ignored.
I don't know why I still pay attention to these things, they just underwhelm me more with every passing year. *sigh*
