This week’s TV picks

Monday:
‘Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special’ 7 p.m., FOX: The Seth McFarlane network tries to revive the variety special with this effort fronted by the popular “American Idol” and Grammy winner.
Tuesday:
‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’ 7 p.m., ABC: Last week everyone tuned in to watch America’s favorite blockhead and got a Presidential address instead (insert your own joke here). Luckily, the pre-empted holiday classic was already scheduled to rerun tonight.
‘Biggest Loser’ 7 p.m., NBC: Season 8’s winner is announced tonight. I understand the double-entendre, but I still think winning this title is a double-edged sword. The $250,000 prize would make that easier to deal with, though.
‘Disney Prep & Landing’ 7:30 p.m., ABC: A veteran elf and his rookie partner set out to prove that it’s possible to create a new holiday classic in this computer-animated Disney toon.
Wednesday:
‘Modern Family’ 8 p.m., ABC: Fred Willard plays Phil’s dad in a truly inspired bit of casting.
‘Living with Ed’ 8 p.m., Green: Whew! I thought this was an infomercial for those ads they always run during the football games.
‘Caddyshack: The Inside Story’ 8 p.m., BIO: A look back at the greatest movie of all time.
‘Barbara Walters Special’ 9 p.m., ABC: Babs announces the 10 most fascinating people of 2009, including Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, Kate Gosselin, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck. Wait a minute
did she say fascinating or unbelievably annoying?
Thursday:
‘Community’ 7 p.m., NBC: I wonder if there will be any ‘Breakfast Club’ call-backs when Anthony Michael-Hall guests as a bully who’s threatening Jeff?
‘Man vs. Food’ 8 p.m., Travel: Adam eats Amarillo in this repeat of the series opener.
Friday:
‘Yes, Virginia’ 7 p.m., CBS: Neil Patrick Harris and Jennifer Love Hewitt lend their voices to this new computer animated version of the Christmas classic.
‘Monsters Inside Me’ 7 p.m., Discovery: Oh, the parasites you’ll see!
Saturday:
‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ 7 p.m., NBC: Every time this perennial holiday favorite is left off the list, a critic gets an angry letter.
‘Ghost Intervention’ 9 p.m., TLC: I’ll admit it
I was seriously disappointed when I found it that this program doesn’t show a bunch of people ambushing their ghost friend and convincing him or her to give up drugs or alcohol.
Sunday:
‘Family Guy’ 8 p.m., FOX: Hugh Laurie voices the guest appearance of his ‘House’ character in the weirdest crossover of the week.
‘Clash of the Dinosaurs’ 7 p.m., Discovery: The defense mechanisms of vegetarian dinosaurs are examined. Hey, carrot sticks can really hurt if they’re too pointy.
‘Christmas at the White House: An Oprah Primetime Special’ 9 p.m., ABC: Today is my birthday and I’m going to celebrate by not watching this.
