Kimmel to deliver weeknight weather on KEYE starting Monday
Turns out Troy Kimmel’s second tour of duty at KEYE will last longer than initially advertised.
Much longer.
The well-known meteorologist, who has been delivering weekend forecasts on a temporary basis this summer, will permanently move to 5, 6 and 10 weeknights starting Monday. The transition marks a return to a shift Kimmel first filled in 2000, when he was hired as the CBS station’s chief meteorologist.
He left in 2003 to focus on teaching at the University of Texas and delivering weather reports for Clear Channel’s Austin radio stations, but was wooed back as a fill-in earlier this year by news director Suzanne Black and general manager Amy Villarreal.
“Troy is the real deal,” Black said in a news release. “He knows Texas and the Austin area in particular, and we are proud to have him back at KEYE.”
Black and Villarreal didn’t immediately return phone calls inquiring about the fate of Susan Vessell, KEYE’s current evening meteorologist. Vessell was bumped up from the morning shift after the station parted ways with weathercaster Byron Webre in an August 2008 round of layoffs that claimed more than a dozen employees.

There are a lot of us non-yankees that prefer NOT to have Kimmel in the slot. He's drab, bland and brings little to the broadcast. At least Susan tried to change things up. She will probably leave, then again, weather in Austin has no talent, regardless of which station you watch.

GREAT NEWS . . . Welcome back Troy! KEYE would be wise to offer FT position to Troy and put Susan into weekends or even replace her. Susan needs help with her image (colors and fit) and in delivery . . . hire an image consultant or get help from Stacy on "What Not To Wear" and a course on delivery.

My take on some of these negative comments is... too many yankees are living here! I am glad Troy is back and I like all the channel reporters.

Warren Culberson? Dang. Pining for James C. Fidler was bad enough. If you're gonna start wishing, pls reincarnate Harold Taft the undisputed World's Greatest Weatherman. He didn't do any forecasts beyond 3 days out because "they aren't reliable."
....and while you're at it, more team coverage of the heat wave. OK?

Bobke, YOU are the idiot of the day! Maybe LM, like myself, isn't standing right by the radio when Kimmel starts his "rant of the day". So, once we get to the radio, we change the station until Kimmel leaves for the day. Bucky & Bob at KVET are too professional to deal with this sour person. Why Clear Channel thinks Kimmel adds anything to the Bucky & Bob program is ver strange.

Who really gives a tinkers damn about who is on tevision as a weather person? I always enjoy the reference to the "computer model". What the heck is that? Rather than say there is a 20% chance of rain...or in some cases a 10% cnance of rain...why not say there is a 80% chance or 90% chance it won't rain. good look to Troy...make it rain damn it!

"Folks" scroll down and read "LM's" comment on Troy Kimmel. This LM person says they always turn KVET off when Troy is talking. This person then goes on to pretty much describe most of the things that Troy does that bothers LM. Now if LM is turning the station off how does LM know what Troy does to begin with? LM you my friend have won todays "idiot of the day" award.

Good for Troy! I watched him when I lived in College Station in the late 70's/early 80's...he was on KBTX (?) in Bryan. I was thrilled when I moved to Austin and he was on TV here! I've missed him and am glad he's back. I like Mark Murray and Jim Spencer, too, so I'm guessing I'll be channel surfing while watching the news.
Welcome back, Troy!

I was lucky enough to take both of Troy's classes at UT. You can really tell weather is his passion and he encourages each and every student to stop by in his office with questions, which doesn't often happen in classes of 400. John, trust me, it may seem like that's all you have to know, but there really is a lot more to some of these forecasts, especially concerning severe weather. LM, you sure don't have to tune in; KVET and KEYE will be alright.
Best of luck to you Troy.

I can't stand Troy Kimmel on KVET. Why they use a weatherman as a regular on their show is beyond me. When starts talking, I change the station. I'm sick of his political views. I don't know why, but he is never challenged by Bob Cole. Troy gets very defensive when he is challenged by some of the other DJs, and he is always right. He always grunts or says "hmmm" when they are conversing. I get tired of him saying, "Folks". I hope this means that I don't have to hear Troy on the radio. I will never watch KEYE weather because of Troy's negative attitude. We'll see how long he lasts there. The dude has some serious issues.

Good for Troy and I can appreciate that he's a smart man and knows his stuff. But really, I could do the same thing: Summer: It's gonna be hot and not rain. Fall: mostly hot, but somedays cooler. Winter: half warm, half cold. Spring: About a week long and hopefully it doesn't rain. There you go. Say those things every night during the appropriate season and you're set.

Congrats to Kimmel.
No surprise, especially when you have a wanna be news director and executive director running that news room. Just ask the disgruntled employees there. It looks like management NOT the talent, needs to be replaced. Good luck Susan. Sounds shady on Metric. Get it together CBS you have the best talent in town.

Looks like my TiVo will now be set to record Keye's news. Troy Kimmel is very easy to watch and blends meteorological science with easy-to-understand language. Jim Spencer is about to get a real run for his money. Mark Murray's forecasts don't go deep enough for me. It is too bad Keye's news, music, graphics and presentation are all so painfully bland, or I would watch them from now on. I think I'd even take KXAN's flash, shock-journalism and dizzying-editing over bland and boring.

Give me Warren Culbertson, or give me death... (or at least end this heat wave...)
