Longhorn bats stifled in 5-1 loss

STANFORD, Calif. — One day after notching 12 hits against Stanford, the No. 7 Texas Longhorns were stymied in Sunday’s 5-1 loss at Sunken Diamond.

No. 24 Stanford (5-3) got a three-run double from right fielder Michael Taylor in the third inning off Texas right-hander Kyle McCulloch, who dropped to 0-2. Taylor added a sacrifice fly for the Cardinal, which broke a four-game losing streak to Texas.

Texas dropped to 5-5 with the loss.

Texas’ lone run came on a fifth-inning single by junior shortstop Chais Fuller. The series concludes with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Monday.
