We have been blessed to receive lots of great donations from Austin Area businesses! Check out the romantic dinners, spa certificates and so much more.

Thank you to everyone who joins me in supporting an organization that helps our Texas children in need.

what a great charity to donate too. look it up on charitynavigator.org to see the stats on how good it really is. im a semi-freakin boss

Great service.May all who contribute for this be abundantly blessed.Jesus said :what ever you did for one of the least brothers of mine, you did it for me.

The new Austin Animal Center opens with the ribbon cutting at 10:30am, and the doors open for adoptions starting at 11. Come find your new best friend!!

This seems a bit odd to me. Dentists, who always warn us not to eat candy because it rots the teeth, buys Halloween candy from kids (so that they won’t eat it and rot their teeth) and gives it to the homeless? Why? Because many of them already have rotted teeth?

On the surface, it may appear that he was drumming up future business…..

I’ve loved reading your stories and can’t wait to see what kinds of new things you give us. I know whatever it is will be great!

Take care!

Mark, don’t be an internet tough guy smart a$$. This is a nonprofit for which someone was doing the best they could in the middle of the night. The cardboard was there only because the thief broke out the standard door the first time around. Know any 24hr. door shops?

And to old man - Do the math. A night watchman at $15 per hour at 8 hours per night would cost approximately $44,000 per year. So in this instance, replacing the stolen items is indeed the lesser cost.

You both seem to be saying “they had it coming to them.” Why not offer something constructive or go volunteer some of your time and obvious genius to help improve the situation.

BB-BS: Which costs more in the long run, replacing stolen items, or hiring a night watchman to stay up and guard the building?

Good thinking using a cardboard door to secure your expensive electronics.

…really? Stealing kid’s bikes from a charity?

This is a great cause. Everybody get out and walk with us!

I feel for them, regardless of the internal politics and/or clashes of personality it must be very hard for any charity or community organisation to operate successfully full stop. Most non-profits have enough difficulty ensuring they can fund their activities on an ongoing basis, city-owned or otherwise. Just hope the Homeless Shelter is able to weather the transition and keep up the good work. James - Uchooze

He was let go because he wanted to move the ARCH out of downtown.

How does Obamaville even make sense to this article or situation?

Translation #2? Maybe he is not the fit for where they are taking the ARCH now. Google his name and you will find this is not the first time he has been asked to leave.

Who are the so-called power brokers? The board of Front Steps is made up of a dedicated group of humble people who DONATE many hours a month to help care for people who find themselves experiencing homelessness for a variety of reasons—including social and economic forces beyond their control, illnesses not of their making or choosing, and individual mistakes—there’s a compelling human story behind every one. The board and the hard-working, staff deal with sometimes overwhelming demands in the short-term while directing a portion of their time to developing strategies and programs aimed at solving these problems over the long haul. Staff members are not racking up big bank accounts from their paychecks. Check your facts before you judge.

thank you to all of those who have worked in the non-profit world. it is a very demanding and thankless job. i applaud the board for making a strong decision before it was too late and the agency was taken down a road filled with personal agendas and power trips. many times boards are too scared to do anything to make positive change. i agree with hiring locally. this may be why the fit wasn’t right…

for all those who have tall tales of what happened…cool your jets and focus on what YOU can do to help our community!!

Welcome to Obamaville!!!

If this shelter was a cheap hotel and had the same staff at the same salaries how long would it stay open -based on occupancy?
