Dave Thomas lived in a small apartment on Anderson Lane during the heyday of Willie and Waylon and the Armadillo World Headquarters in 1972. Unfortunately, he was only a year old. He's returned to Austin a couple times since then, most recently arriving from San Angelo in early 2002. He pays the bills as a copy editor and designer, but secretly longs to be a world championship barbecue cook-off judge. He drives a '98 Chevy pickup named after a Billy Joe Shaver song and loves a San Antonio girl named Shannon.

The trail’s old hat, it’s time to check out the playground:

“Whoa, I can feel that Tender Chicken & Stars coming right back up
”

(Imagine Jacques Cousteau voice) “Look, LaRonde, it’s ze magnifzent rhomboid squid
”

“Yeah, they let me in the yard for an hour a day. Other than that, it’s total lockdown.”

“Must … find … milk …”

(Insert obligatory “like sands through an hourglass, so are the days of our lives” joke here.)

Sand. It’s what’s for dinner.
