Film series focuses on Mexican revolution
The Austin Film Society announced today that its upcoming Essential Cinema series will focus on movies highlighting the Mexican revolution, in conjunction with the nation’s bicentennial celebrations.
The series, which is being presented in partnership with Cine Las Americas and the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin, will be called “Viva la Revolución! Films of the Mexican Revolution.” Five films will be shown, starting Sept. 14 and continuing through Oct 12 at the Alamo Ritz, 320 E 6th St.
The schedule:
Sept. 14 - “Vamanos Con Pancho Villa,” directed by Fernando de Fuentes. Mexico, 1936.
Sept. 21 - “Villa Villa!” Directed by Jack Conway (with help from Howard Hawks and William A. Wellman). USA, 1934,
Sept. 28 - “El Compadre Mendoza,” written and directed by Fernando de Fuentes and Juan Bustillo Oro. Mexico, 1934.
Oct. 5 - “Viva Zapata!” Directed by Elia Kazan. USA, 1952.
Oct. 12 - “El Prisionero 13,” directed by Fernando de Fuentes. Mexico, 1933
