Opening date named for ‘Great Directors’ doc
Back in April we wrote this squib:
Opening in New York in July is a new documentary, “Great Directors,” described as a “celebration of films and filmmaking starring 10 of the worlds most acclaimed, provocative, and individualistic living directors.”
Who are the 10? Bernardo Bertolucci, David Lynch, Stephen Frears, Agnes Varda, Ken Loach, Liliana Cavani, Todd Haynes, Catherine Breillat, John Sayles and … Richard Linklater.
Very cool. It’s a great starter pantheon that leaves room for ample argument and intellectual fencing. (Who’d you add? Subtract? Where’s Kiarostami? Godard? And so forth.)
Back then we didn’t have an Austin date, but the Arbor reports it will open here Aug. 6.
