Austin ranked No. 5 for moviemaking cities
Each year MovieMaker magazine ranks the 10 best cities for indie filmmakers, and each year Austin gets juggled up and down the final list like it’s the mag’s own little plaything. Enough.
In 2008 we were No. 1. (One!)
In 2009 we were No. 10. (Ten?!)
Now, in 2010, we are No. 5, smack in the middle. (Hmph.)
MovieMaker’s criteria:
Cost of living, employment opportunities, housing costs, crime rates and quality of life, state and city financial incentives, access to talent, size and closeness of the local moviemaking community, ease of shooting (i.e. amount of red tape), local production resources and movie-related vendors, exposure to other moviemakers and film sets, educational opportunities and number of local screening options, including film festivals.
