Score the ‘Scanner’ score on June 27
— Graham Reynolds’ soundtrack for “A Scanner Darkly” is due out June 27. You can see Reynolds and a nine-piece band perform before “Scanner” screenings July 28-29 at the Alamo South.
In other “Scanner” news, look for Austin actress Angela Rawna in the film as Keanu Reeves’ chief medical deputy.
— If you have a Fantastic Fest badge, you have first crack at the Alamo’s showing of horror movie “The Descent” in Longhorn Caverns.
— The deadline for SXSWclick looms.
— SXSW 2005 had a bumper crop of great documentaries, and “The Boys of Baraka” was one of the very best. The film — about at-risk boys in Baltimore who get the chance to attend an experimental school in Africa — is new on DVD this week. Newsweek calls it “an emotionally charged and beautifully made film that is filled with despair and hope.” And Newsweek is right.
— Out & About goes to “The Da Vinci Code.”
Meanwhile, Vanity Fair points out similarities between Dan Brown’s best-seller and an earlier novel by another author.
