And then there were 12 …
She’s gone. She’s GONE! SHE’S GONE!!!
We’re talking, of course, about Antonella Barba, who has finally been voted off “American Idol.” And not a moment too soon.
Sadly, Antonella’s departure was the only one that didn’t leave us scratching our heads Thursday night. Others to get the boot were Sabrina Sloan, Jared Cotter and Texan Sundance Head.
Haley Scarnato, also a Texan, managed to stick around another week, but few expect her to go the distance.
America has spoken and, truth be told, “Idol” is more of a popularity contest than a talent competition. Case in point: Sanjaya Malakar. There’s no way in the world he made it to the final 12 based on his singing skills. We’re guessing hordes of giggly pre-teen girls helped put him over the top.
The judges seemed especially shocked at the final tallies. Randy Jackson, in particular, was aghast after Sabrina was sent packing: “America got that one wrong, dog.”
What do you think of the final 12? Are you pleased? Displeased? We want to hear from you.
Idol chatter …
- Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell in Africa?
No, it’s not the plot of some cheesy Hollywood flick.
The two will journey to some of the world’s poorest locales in the coming weeks as part of the “Idol” Gives Back fundraising campaign announced Thursday night. The two-part event will air next month.
On April 24, the finalists will perform songs of “compassion and hope,” according to a Fox news release, and the show’s sponsors will make a donation for each vote cast. The next night, April 25, a number of performers — Gwen Stefani, Josh Groban, Pink, Michael Buble, Annie Lennox, Il Divo and Sacha Baron Cohen — will stop by and encourage viewers to make contributions via a toll-free number.
Funds raised will be split between the needy here in America and in Africa.

I thinks last night’s Idol was a total disappointment!!! I was mad last week when Nick Pedro got voted off before Sanjaya, and now Sundance?!!!! Plus, what’s up with Sabrina going home and Haley making into the top 12?!! Overall a complete and utter disaster that’s left me wondering why I’m going to keep watching when horrible singers such as Sanjaya keep pushing through over the one’s who deserve to be there.

I didn’t think Sundance should have gotten voted off. I liked him. I have no explanation for Sanjaya, he’s awful. I agreed that Antonella, Jared and Sabrina should go though. I couldn’t stand any of them.

I am so glad that Antonella got booted off last night. The only thing that she was credited for was her looks, not her singing abilities. As for Sabrina, she definetely should not have gotten voted off because that girl has range! I can’t say I am dissapointed though, my favorite contestant is still in!

When are you people going to realize that Idol is just a prom king/queen contest wrapped in a karaoke candy shell? Disgusting.

What once was a true competion for talent has turned into a blatant popularity contest. It nows boils down to how many people will run the phone banks in the contestants home town. They don’t care if they have talent, only that their town will get to be on some future episode of AI screaming their fool heads off. If they truly wanted talent, they would run this like Rock Star did: have american vote it down to the bottom three, have a sing-off that night, and then let the judges decide who goes home. That will never happen though because then there wouldn’t be all this talk and the show would lose it’s popularity. Americans love drama and how else do you create drama than by doing what you know will shock people. Can any say Britney????

Honestly the people they chose vs. some they passed in the auditions made this year very lackluster. I like American Idol but after the final people were chosen after auditions I yawned and turned to another show. I was not in AWE with the competition. In the words of Simon BORING! Never thought I would not watch A.I. but this year was dead.

Sabrina should not have gotten voted off before Haley. But I don’t think either one of them would make it to the top 4 or 5. So, does it really make that much difference who’s going home now? As for the guys, none of them deserves to be around at the end, so I’m not sweating who stays and goes right now. But if Sanjaya is still hanging on three of four weeks from now………..

Sabrina was robbed. Haley cannot sing competitively with those who are left.
Sanjaya is better than most are giving him credit for. But all the haters (including the judges) are out to bury him. Whatever.
Sundance voted himself off. After his initial tryout (which was pretty strong), he coasted, with the exception of being really likeable. He never delivered one credible performance after that. You can’t vote on potential.
Top 5 for me at the moment: Blake & Melinda, Chris Sligh & LaKisha, and Jordin and…either Phil or Stephanie. I don’t think anyone else has the strength to win it.

Is it true there’s a “vote for the worst” club? I read that they decide who’s the worst of the evening and flood the lines with calls for that singer! That’s one theory I heard to explain Sanjaya still being around. I also heard that some people think it’s a sympathy vote because Simon’s comments are mean/cruel to Sanjaya, and the kid just stands there looking like he’s going to cry. Maybe people feel sorry for him? Honestly, he looks like he’d rather be at home he’s so uncomfortable! Maybe Simon should just be polite and dismissive rather than overtly mean & then people wouldn’t waste votes on this kid who should have been gone weeks ago!

Come on people…Sanjaya should have been long ago! Is that star quality? You who voted for him must be deaf! He can’t sing!!!!!
