Sharing the pain… and the blame at the gas pump

WESTMORELAND.jpg
With Americans paying jaw-dropping prices for a gallon of gas, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland of Grantville, Ga., says he “felt the pain” when he paid $93 to fill up his truck.

In an op-ed released Monday, the Republican became the latest lawmaker to tweak the Democrats by citing a promise made by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2006, when she said her party had a “commonsense plan” to lower gas prices.

Republicans, perhaps hoping that voters will overlook the fact that their party controls the White House, have been hammering on the “Pelosi premium” as pump prices go up.

Neither party has come up with a quick solution—commonsense or otherwise—to the energy challenge.
