White House: No “silver bullet” for rising gas prices

The question, posed to White House Press Secretary Dana Perino at today’s briefing, was phrased thusly:

“How would you characterize the level of concern, here, about the specter of $4-a-gallon gasoline, that many analysts are now warning of, given the current trend?”

The answer included these passages:

“You know, obviously, high gas prices have a huge impact on the economy, on families across America, and especially on business, small businesses in particular, those especially that have transportation as a part (that’s) integral to their business, like florists or plumbers. To those type of businessmen, it really does have an impact. So we’re mindful of it. It’s not a problem that was created overnight. It’s not going to be solved overnight. But the president is aware of it. He’s going to be getting an economic update tomorrow that will include issues such as the high price of fuel.”

“So the president’s very mindful of it. There is not a lot of short-term fixes that exist out there. We’ve been dealing with this for several years. The issue of high energy prices is something that was created over a long period of time. And it would be wrong of us to say that there is any silver bullet that would have a short-term solution.”

It surely has taken years to get this bad…..looking back I think it all began that fateful day Cheney had all those oil industry executives in his office for a closed door meeting in violation of sunshine laws and such. Yeah, I think that was it alright. So yes, its been basically 7 years now.
