FAA’s Blakey reflects on … Elvis
Marion Blakey, head of the Federal Aviation Administration, met with reporters Wednesday to recap her five-year term, which expires Sept. 13.
But instead of asking about the new air traffic control technologies she has championed, inquiring minds wanted to know more about her grandmother, who was Elvis Presley’s grade-school music teacher in Tupelo, Miss.
Blakey said that, according to her grandmother, young Elvis “always brought a guitar to school and would play on the playground. And he was quite good.”
Still, Grandma never gave Elvis a solo because “he had a sweet voice, but not too strong.”
