Jack Carter Endorses Biden For President

The oldest son of former President Carter today endorsed Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware in the campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

In announcing his endorsement, Jack Carter noted that Biden was the first senator to support his father in 1975. Moreover, “he was helpful in my own campaign last year,” noted Carter, who was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in Nevada last year.

Of Biden, Carter said, “He is experienced, knowledgeable, affable and humorous … with Joe Biden, we don’t have to worry about the problems of lack of experience or high negatives affecting our chances in November 2008.”

Although Biden trails in public opinion polls, Carter noted that a dark horse candidate can win the nomination and the presidency, especially if the candidate unexpectedly wins in Iowa, the first event in the nominating process. “We did it in 1976,” Carter said, referring to his father’s surprise victory in the 1976 Iowa caucus.
