White House wedding?
Here’s the official announcement from Sally McDonough, press secretary to Laura Bush:
“President and Mrs. George W. Bush are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jenna Bush, to Mr. Henry Hager, son of the Honorable and Mrs. John H. Hager of Richmond, Virginia. Miss Bush and Mr. Hager became engaged Wednesday, August 15, 2007. No wedding date has been set.”
Here’s what else we know based on a conversation this spring with a, shall we say, well-placed source who spoke privately about the above matter:
Back then, a family marriage was expected but a White House wedding was not. Things can always change - and may already have - but the well-placed source said there would not be a White House wedding before the Bushes leave town.
That could mean:
A. A wedding someplace else (Kennebunkport can be romantic. Crawford, not so much) B. There will not be a wedding prior to Jan. 20, 2009.
Footnote: On April 11, 1994, when then-gubernatorial candidate and Texas Rangers managing general partner George W. Bush served as tour guide on opening day at the team’s new stadium, he pointed to a long stairway at the end of a concourse and talked about how one of his daughters would one day come down it on her wedding day.
Sure, dad.

JIM! You know she is a good girl; and would never practice anything but abstinence.
Or, if shes like her father, obstinance.
