Just Say No

Who can forget former First Lady Nancy Reagan, dressed in red, telling America’s youth to “just say no” to drugs?

Maybe the liberal leaning American Civil Liberties Union forgot that those words came from the wife one of the most revered Republicans of the century when it launched its “Just Say NO” campaign this week.

The goal: stop Congress from passing bills that the ACLU believes undermine civil liberties, such as the pending bill that would authorize President Bush’s domestic wiretapping program.

Given the “mischief” that can happen at the end of a Congress, Caroline Fredrickson, the ACLU’s legislative director, said the organization was trying to stop bills from passing in the “the dark of night” with costly add ons that the public doesn’t know about.
