Brother Bill

President Bush, not exactly riding a wave of popularity, found a way today to link himself to a former president who retains a solid measure of popularity.

“I particularly want to thank my predecessor, the man who signed the legislation to create this memorial, President Bill Clinton,” Bush said as he began his remarks at the ceremonial groundbreaking for the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial.

The remarks brought loud applause.

“It sounds to me they haven’t forgotten you yet,” Bush said, adding, “He’s become, as you know, my fourth brother.”
