Blackburn starts out so well and then becomes, well, Tom again.

“We seem to be trying to achieve a generation of young fogies who will confuse accomplishment with celebrity, whose definition of freedom is low taxes and waving the sign they were given, whose highest aspiration would be a better car and whose goal is a shot on American Idol. “

Yes, the young do need to differentiate celebrity from accomplishment. If Tom had stopped there, he would have had something. But, no,he then decides the young should be willing to shoulder the high tax burden Blackburn thinks is their due. The young could, and should, aspire to low taxes and limited government. But that idea is a horror for ol’ fogey Tom.

“…if you are still liberal when you are 40 you have no brain.”

Notably you failed to mention contemporaries John Adams and John Smith…

…but made sure to include your obligatory conservative demonizing rebuke ” a generation of young fogies… whose definition of freedom is low taxes and waving the sign they were given…”

SIR, YOU LIE!!
