Great column. Equally of concern is, Where is the leadership from Palm Beach County in Tallahassee? We have tenured, experienced legislators and we still have the current Senate President. Where is the leadership on solving tough issues????? If the county staff lobbying Tallahassee can’t hack it, which they apparently can’t according to the pattern of activities you are covering, then cut them. Save the money. How much are we paying for lobbying staff? Lobbying staff ON TOP OF all of the professional lobbying we are paying for in Tallahassee? It is beyond insane. How much is their travel costing us? Forget the elected officials - shine some light on the staff and contract lobbying travel. Cut the governmental relations staff and ask the staff of the elected officials to just talk with each other a little more.

one solutiontion to the budget that we never hear of is salary cuts for all govt employees.rather than cutting jobs lets cut salaries by 20-30%.

Some communities pay for extra sherrif’s patrols so how does that count into the totals? It also seems to come to mind that over the years the sherrif’s office took over many town police forces. Maybe those towns need to put up more cash? How much of the increase to the sherrif’s budget is for those increased duties?

Why do you ASSUME that the Sheriff cannot keep the public safe without the GIGANTIC INCREASES in his budget - WAY WAY above the growth rate. Of course he can cut his budget sub substantially and still maintain public safety - How ridiculous is this? Look at the increases each year on top of the last year- No Way can that really be justified - THEY NEED TO BE AUDITED

The PBC Commisioners are a bunch of wimps who haven’t got the guts to take on the Sherrif’s office. The sherrif’s department owns the county budget and never should have been allowed to ru up their costs so much over the years. Did no one at the county commission question any of this? Oh! I forgot. Half of them are in jail. What a surprise.
