I use Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) on the buildings I build. They can meet this requirement without any problems and reduce the air conditioning bill by 33%. It is truly amazing that more people do not use this cost effective product.

I must be missing something here. FEMA is saying “if you want our money, build it to 200mph standards”. The locals are saying “we don’t want to build it that way, there is no need”. Therefore, no FEMA money for you.

Local governments like to build flimsy structures that fly apart in storms, then they can use federal and insurance money to build a “Lois Frankel” approved palace. Local governments also like to demand we go through the permitting process for any minor project (to get permit tax revenue), but there is no correlation between this laughable “inspection” process and structures not flying apart in hurricanes. They only care about the revenue from pulling a permit and the “inspection process” is a joke.
