Mr. Barefoot Mailman, I’m sure you know that bribery and propaganda are Oceanland’s specialties. They’ve been stating since the early days that they have a “in” with the govt and know how to get things passed.
“1,300 jobs, a $35 million local payroll, nearly $15 million a year to the municipality, and $36.3 million to Palm Beach County, plus $25 million to the school district.”
You can already smell the stench of bribery in the air…
My dear neighbor, you say, worng again. It does not say in the by laws that 8o% in each section need to vote.
Evidently you have been brainwashed or are one of the brainwashers. It certainly does say that for Sections I and II. Also, the office will NOT let anybody see the actual votes nor will they tell us the percentage from each section. We can look at the final tabulations and that’s it.
I am a permanent resident of Briny and live there year round.
I have accepted the fact that 82% of the shares voted for the sale(….not 82% of the actual votes.) but I simply will not swallow any of this hogwash verbiage that some spout out in an attempt to justify their methods. You’d be better off spending your time and energy creating a plan that could be accepted by the neighbors and state officials and stop acting like an Oceanland puppet repeating things that clearly do not make sense to those of us who do have the ability to think and speak for ourselves. The comments made by our Board and Town Council have been an embarrassment to our community and make us all appear to be “simple, old folks” incapable of digesting information, analyzing it, sythesizing it and producing a coherent statement. Oceanland PR has to hand the mayor’s and Board president’s statements to the media. How pathetic is that?
No matter how anybody voted on this issue, the behaviour of these individuals is not a reflection of our community at large but merely of a few who have chosen to blindly act in this manner and, by so doing, have created a most negative image of Briny to the rest of the world.
worng again. It does not say in the by laws that 8o% in each section need to vote. that was proven if you were there. you are wrong and you know it.
An indepent cpa firm confirmed the vote. you can see the tabulation.Ask at the Bring office. Under freedom of information.
Another Briny resident wrote: *The 82% vote for sale is correct. The counting and vote was conducted by an outside CPA Firm.
The vote could have been much higher had the 5% that did not vote, voted.*
This is flawed thinking. Yes, an outside source “said” that 82% of the shares voted yes. (not actual votes) Briny Residents have never seen those results nor have we been told what percentage of each district voted “yes”. This is most likely because they did not receive 80% of the vote in Sections I and II where it clearly states in the by-laws that 80% of the votes Must agree to sell the land in those sections. (This happens to be the prime area on the beach side.)
By the way, the 5% that did NOT vote , did so as a test of the system. They were all “no” votes.
i cant but help think that Ocean Land has their finger in the opposition in order to get the purchase price lowered to something reflective of 2007 real estate prices.
The only losers in this are the BB residents who have been manipulated and tempted by seemingly large sums of money which in this day and age are really chump change, once they are taxed and buy another piece of property they will have enough money for a nice steak dinner
*Dave Long wrote: Not everybody in Briny Breezes wants to sell at any price. I doubt even the 80% is a true figure of those who want to sell. Much pressure and scare tactics were used to influence the shareholders. *
He is correct. AND, not everybody would get a million dollars. Of course, Roger Bennet, the mayor, with his 85 shares (multiply that by approx $32,000 per share) will get about 2 million.
Many of us want Briny to stay forever. There are plans to redevelop Briny into small, hurricane proof bungalows that would maintain the sanctity and beauty of the area. Anybody who wanted to sell would get more money from selling this than they would ever get from Oceanland Developers!
Save Briny and Florida from this destruction!

Counted your money a little too quickly? On the contrary, the sham that Ocean Land is trying to pull off in Briny Breezes is the way things have been done in the past in Palm Beach County - not the future. Their proposal is so far over the top (even 25% of it is ridiculous) that local politicians know it is career suicide to go near it.
Not everybody in Briny Breezes wants to sell at any price. I doubt even the 80% is a true figure of those who want to sell. Much pressure and scare tactics were used to influence the shareholders. My mother ownes a mobile home there and I have been going there for 50 years. My grandfather started going there in the early 50’s. My 2 sons will be fourth generation if it lasts. Briny is getting old and tired and does need to be updated, but the energy levels are low because of the older folks there just not knowing what to do. I feel if the neighboring communities around them are upset, they should offer to help re-vitalize Briny into something everyone could live with. The expertise in this area along with financial backing could help Briny evolve into a development everyone could live with. With help from neighboring communities, everyone could rest easier knowing this monster development won’t get out of the ground. I’d love to see Briny stay around in some form or another for the next 100 years!
This thing is never, ever going to happen. It was predicated on condo prices continuing to increase at 2004/2005 rates. Now that condo prices are dropping instead, Ocean land would have to build towers to the moon to make money.
