When I read,”Mecca eyed as source of fill” By HECTOR FLORIN, It makes me angry, sad and frustrated with our greedy local Gov’t.

This land is one of the few savings plan that the county created… and that blessing was an accident!

If there was a plan and excess dirt was created in sculpting the land for the developement then reason would say sell but to strip this land to sell the fill is wrong and greedy. The amusement park, horse show, and even the ATV park makes great temporary use.Local fairs or festivals?

If our government were really smart they would use this piece of land to recruit more “Scripts” like projects! The county now has to build income! Use the assets. Look at the years of high property tax and bonus docs stamp funds that were spent without a thought of creating a fund for future lean years! I hope this new budget crunch cancels the New Courthouse!

Why dont they turn it into an ATV park? There is no where to ride are here unless you want to travel 1 plus hours and some of us out here dont have the trailers to transport. I use my ATV to do heavy dragging and came in real usefull after the hurricanes. People didn’t mine me haveing it then.

Did ya’ll rea d this article….they are RAISING FEES!

Burt Aaronson wants affordable housing on MECCA. More people squeezed together….more fire stations, police, schools, commercial follows.

This land WILL be valuable..bide the time unitl a planned port facility hub is set for Pratt and Whitney site, South Bay, or Pahokee.

Put people on MECCA that will cause more costs (taxes) for the public.

Let’s CUT TAXES FIRST!!

What ever happened to the amusement park idea? Everyone who goes there will be happy it’s time for some happy faces around here! Could flying floss from cotton candy hurt the environment? I’m sure we would hear about it if it did. Just remember > while cotton candy is finger lickin good, horse manure isn’t!

Oh and by the way, Bob Weisman knows full well that the stripping of the topsoil WILL require the same kinds of evironmental permitting as any quarrying project, and approvals from the Army Corp, due to the proximity to neighboring wetlands. To say he doesn’t know if any will be required is hogwash. This county spent a fortune on legal fees and reseach for the Scripps fiasco, HE DOES KNOW. JUST more of the same County Leader-less-ship.

I said before, that land should be set up for the Wellington Horse Shows. It could easily accomodate the parking, limited buildings, and some of the playing fields could be designed to be used as water storage areas during the rainy season, after the horses have left. BUT NO…..that just makes too much sense….so now they want to strip off the overbuden topsoils for use at the landfills. What do you think that will do for the water infiltration and storage capacity for the neighboring wetlands, and the Loxahatchee watershed? If you guessed destroy it..YOUD BE RIGHT. Gee you think maybe thats really the intent there?

So who do you want to sell Mecca to, a BUILDER ? Do you want MORE developement? Horses could solve a lot of problems at once. Horse waste is nothing new, that can be delt with better than the waste of the money so far on Mecca.

I hope the Acreage residents will start to realize that they cannot just bury their heads in the ground. Some want things to remain the same forever and this is not going to happen. Control the progress or other people or cities will use us to their advantage.

Why not build a state of the art horse facility. All we hear about is Wellington not having the room to keep the events here in PBC and how much revenue the shows bring to PBC. I’d rather see horses than houses.
