I think the rule should be enforced. There’s just way too much fraternizing going on. They can fraternize before and after the game if they must. As the article states you never used to see this years ago and it is just becoming worse and worse. I’d like it if the players weren’t so friendly on AND off the field. Makes for better rivalries. Makes it more likely that a runner will do all he can within the rules to break up a play instead of running out of the way and giving the defensive player a clear view at his target. All in all I believe it would be better for the game.
What a ridulous rule, and any rule that is not enforced detracts from the rules that must be.
It is not just friends and former teammates but family! Fathers and sons have and do play and/or coach for different teams as do brothers from Dom and Joe DiMagio, who played for the Red Sox and Yankees to J.D. and Steve Drew who play for the Red Sox and D-Backs.
Barry Bonds’ hitching a ride on a private jet does not fall under this rule since the rule stipulates that the player must be in uniform and I doubt that he was. Maybe there should be a rule about players accepting valuable gifts from representatives of other teams!
What about the All-Star Game? Isn’t the rule broken when players chat with their one-day teammates?
Remove this silly rule!
Please!! With all the issues baseball is facing, is 2 good ole’ friends chit-chatting before a game in the forefront. With Selig maybe, keeps the more important issues on the back burner. How much talking goes on between 1st baseman and runner who walks or singles all the time. Runners who slide into 2nd base and say hello to 2nd baseman or shortstop, whoever is covering the base at that time. Time honored rules are outdated. This was to protect integrity of the game. If players want to do something stupid they know what hotel and where and how to get in touch with other team. Friends talking to friends within the fraternity is fine. Lets focus on what NEEDS to be fixed in baseball, call it a day and enjoy it for what it is. A great sport steeped in tradition. This is the lesson our kids should be seeing from the players they look up to. Friendship, commaraderie, sportsmanship. Isn’t that what baseball really is? ( I hope )

The players are breaking the non-fraternization rule? The horror. The horror. Listen, the way Bud-light and his merry men pursue the steroid guys, the wife beaters, and other criminals in their game, this new affront won’t become a front burner issue for another 500 years. Baseball is a dying game, and no longer has any moral authority on which to stand.
