Frank Cerabino’s article on the “Palm Beach Observatory” was sidesplitting! But so true it is scary! The whole concept is a joke to try and fool the public into doing a project clearly wrong for this site and the downtown.
People please read into the article before you comment. Frank didnt point it out but in the article published Wednesday it clearly states this is going to be a privately funded venture. This ISN’T going to cut into your tax dollars. And the developers do not make money for solving the homeless or whatever problem WPB has. Sure it wouls be nice if they would, but there doing this for business not for the humanity of it. I would like to go on record that i do not particularly like the designs but i like the idea. Put something on the piece of property that would put WPB on the map, something classy yet style-ish.
I’ll agree, there are more important things that need attention in West Palm Beach, and I’m proud of my city without the classy space tower making it seem like a smallscale town on a map with a pin tacked through it. Really, now… the ambitious designers who dug this idea up must realize they don’t live in New York City. There is no remarkable or landmark that observers could gawk at besides everything you mentioned, Frank, and this idea is frankly ridiculous. Sorry guys, don’t cry over it, but it isn’t a good idea by a long shot.
ITS NOT THE SECOND TALLEST TOWER. Its only a proposal for one thing. And if you wanna talk proposed buildings than lets talk the nearly one kilometer Al Burj in Dubai. How about the UNDER CONSTRUCTION Burj Dubai, a 2600’+ tall building. Did we all forget about these? WHAT ABOUT THE CHICAGO SPIRE??? That building is actually approved so journalists please stop being stupid, ITS NOT THE WORLDS SECOND TALLEST. DUH!!!
How about a real Mega Resort 4.5 bill dollar 20000 Jobs ?? in the West by the Lake in the middle of Nothing where Palm Beach County could finally have a major world attraction ,but the “Palm Beach Eye in the Sky” would make a nice Buoy for it .

I haven’t figured out yet if Frankle is an idiot or brilliant.
We can call it “The Grand Palm Observatory” and we’ll put a huge mid-to-high-end eatery at the top and call it “The Coconut.” It would cater to a middle class lunch crowd and could feature an over-the-top night club and seafood restaurant.
I can see it now. I’ll go when it opens, in the mean time I’m just going to settle for a birds-eye view of West Palm in the comfort of my home using Google Maps :-)
Great article! First off, Lois Frankel is the poor man’s donna shalala. I can’t believe people voted for that crooked little toad. Wasn’t that scumbag Sonny Peixoto close with Frankel? Wow, what a great judge of character. Can someone help me understand this proposal for this massive building downtown … The world’s 2nd largest building being in west palm beach will help west palm residents _(fill in the blank please). Lets take a page from Delray and preserve our historic districts and build vertically as needed. Is west palm strapped for office space? If so, does it need what is planned? Just what we need, another excuse for more obnoxoius new yorkers and con artists polluting our state … a-la frankel’s friend Sonny.
It would be a great way to bring in tourism dollars and also to help make west palm beach become a major player bringing in business headquarters. This would result in more jobs, higher paid executives moving down here, in turn causing them to spend there money here. Who wouldnt want that. Higher property values and higher paying jobs are a great thing.

This is SO not right. We have people living in cardboard boxes in West Palm Beach and we are going to build a space tower? What’s WRONG with people?
And, both schemes are dog breath ugly, out of scale and inappropriate for West Palm Beach.
we need to focus on west palm beach, and its history.stop tearing down our historical land marks.too much of our history is gone.as a native of west palm beach,it makes me wonder why all these people from other parts of the world don’t have respect for palm beach county and its culture.we don’t want this to be New YORK,
The Mayor and City Officials really need to wake up and face reality! This idiotic idea will never be completed and is a complete waste of TAXPAYERS money. The Mayor is apparently in La-La Land!!!!
I think our elected officials need to wake up and smell reality. This is just another grandiose delusion…or is that vision in their own minds. Did we forget 911? This is a prime target for our “peaceful” middle eastern friends…unless the hurricanes get it first!
What is the purpose of erecting a giant structure in West Palm? One would get to the top and look out and see nothing interesting other than the ocean.
Maybe money could be put into more useful things, like finishing year old construction jobs and keeping the people safe, instead of something excessive like this

Well it finally happened, they’re putting up high buildings in Florida, just for the sake of putting up high buildings.

The tower would be a great place to start a new “almost” Mile High Club…

Maybe we could give it a bit of a Mizner flair to match the rest of our architecture and charm?
