Didn’t anyone read the article? The dogs had been reported a vicious on 4 prior occasions. An uncontrolled animal which kills another pet is required to be impounded in just about any city in this country. These dogs were out of control on at least 2 occasions. The city did nothing until they attempted to kill a human. Their gross derelection of duty led directly to this woman’s injuries as much as the criminal irresponsibility of the owner did. This should not have stopped with a monetary award, people should be serving jail time.

to Kathy H. As far back as I can trace my ancestors, they worked the land from sun up to sun down, worked their fingers to the bone, building this country. They didn’t live off FREE food stamps, free medical help, free anything. You really have to know what’s going on and be involved in the system to know how much these lazy bums that don’t belong here take from the people who work so hard. You have no clue!!! Maybe you don’t work and pay taxes I don’t know. I will never post any further. I’m sure your glad to hear that, but seriously you have no idea what goes on in the system.

Roland and Ripping Flesh, I think you took me wrong. I am not “white treash” I work 50 hours a week, own a home, contribute to many charities, help people, but I am just sick and tired of my tax dollars going to illegals and people who don’t want to get off their butts and work like the rest of us. Those boatloads of illegals come in, go straight to Krome Detention in Miami, are fed, given medical and housing, while I pay for my medical insurance, home, food, taxes. Aren’t you tired of seeing much of your tax dollars spend on people who don’t contribute? Granted she worked and probably paid taxes if she was on the books, but I’m just talking in “general”. Sorry if I put her in a category she didn’t belong in.

**Rowland, you rock, man, you are so right that “Survey Says” is trash. I bet some pit bulls would love to get their teeth around his frickin peanut head and chomp away. Survey Says, my neighbor has two pit bulls, Razor and Darkness, that want you to visit.

I will personally knock you out and tie you down, so Razor can eat your 1 inch peepee.

Then the real feast will begin! Internal organs! Yum! Razor and Darkness - happy!

Being attacked by wild animals is living hell. Death or disfigurement always result. Pit bulls are bred to be maulers. For them, it is all about killing.

Those of you who talk about city budgets and taxes are sick and need to be put away or attacked by someone’s dog or reptile.

Then we’ll see how long it takes you to find a lawyer.

This woman was apparently fine prior to the attack. Now she will be crippled for the remainder of her life with limited opporitunities to support her family. Who cares where she is from. What if it were you?

Animal Care and Contol has a duty to investigate issues and take action. If they do not and shirk their duty (like not investigate valid complaints) then they are liable.
How would people feel if you reported a male neighbor who was hurting children and the police decided to not do anything or follow up on reports? When it was YOUR child hurt then you would be getting a lawyer to sue quicker than a speeding pit bull.

so because the city didnt do anything about the dogs after they had attacked a cat theyre at fault? This verdict means ANY OF YOU WITH DOGS, even beagles, Labradors, or retrievers, can be the exact same victim. The jury found because a dog attacks a cat (oh god, how rare!)and people complained, the city didnt do enough to take the dog away, theyre at fault? cause they didnt “protect her?” .

ALl this is going to leave to is the city now taking away every dog and killing them on the first frivolous complaint in order to prevent a further 3 million dollar lawsuit.

Say goodbye to your retrievers, Labradors and beagles.

I’m sorry this happened to her, but I guess she should have stayed in Haiti. Another perfect example of foreigners coming here, our tax dollars going to them one way or another. We either pay their health benefits, food stamps, their 20 mongrul kids they keep having that they can’t even afford to feed. Stay in your own country. This is getting so out of control, Little Havana Miami is moving more northbound, soon WPB will be like Miami, then Stuart, then right up on the state. They come over in their boats and so on and so on….

Before anybody gets too carried away, let’s look at the facts, the real facts not the sensationalized headline:the defendant who was 40% liable was not in the court room and not represented by a lawyer, i.e. no insurance, no money no possibility of any recovery for the first 40%- verdict down to 2.25 mil- the city has a right of appeal but most importantly the city sovereign immunity the most that can be recovered is 100,000 including fees and costs. lawyer will take 25% (limit on municipality case)- verdict down to 75,000 to pay all hospital and medical bills and for pain and suffering and disfugurement-hardly a pay day when you consider the medical bills are between 135,000 and 225,000.

With the high cost of medical and the high percent going towards her attorney’s expenses and fees, I believe the victim’s settlement fair. there’s a likelihood she is permanently impaired physically and her appearance marred forever, plus all the trauma and pain she and her family have suffered. I’d much rather see local tax dollars go this way rather than on the larger scale, financing a war with no end in site.

Lets have some sympathy, she has probably suffered tremendously and has had several if not many reconstructive surgeries. I don’t know why they city is involved but I prefer my tax dollars going towards something like than those people that breed uncontrollably. An eye for an eye here is also not a smart response.

But maybe the city did something stupid like tear down a fence that allowed the dogs to become lose or something along those lines. Anyway, she will probably only get 100K out of the 2.256 mil the city is suppose to pay. Anyhow, the verdict may or may not be enough money to make this lady whole, we dont know what her injuries are, how many surgeries she had or will need in the future. People who say its too much money without all the facts are morons.

Judges are so quick to award damages because judges themselves are immune against lawsuits…

Its about time that changed. Bad decisions should have repercussions for their actions. Judge makes a bad call, they should also allowed to be sued. Maybe then they will think twice about giving so much in damages to parties that have nothing to do with the problem.
